The history of Val di Toro
"The art of good wine begins with taking care of the land and ends in an open bottle on the table".
Val di Toro is a family business in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma and here we produce wines of the highest quality. Ours is a careful, meticulous and environmentally friendly viticulture. We put all our passion into our wines and each of them tends to create an unforgettable experience.
Anna Maria Cruciata and her husband Hugh Constable Maxwell moved to Maremma in 2003 and, attracted by the beauty of the Maremma countryside and the desire for a life in contact with nature, they transformed into a vineyard those that in more distant times had been pastures of Maremma bulls, planting varieties typical of the area.
Anna Maria and Hugh are proud to have been able to produce and to be able to offer you a range of wines, be they red, white or rosé, of the highest quality and typicality.
The production
Environmental sustainability is our guiding principle: our agronomic practices aim to enrich the soil and manage the vineyard as a balanced and sustainable unit. The result are grapes of the highest quality, selected and harvested by hand, which will then generate clean, elegant wines, never banal and which do not negatively impact the soil that created them.
Our 12 hectares of vineyards are located in the heart of the Maremma and generate about 100,000 bottles a year. For us the story of how a wine is produced is as important as the wine itself and we believe that good viticulture begins with taking care of the soil.
In fact we have been practicing organic farming since 2004 and since 2015 we have been certified organic. Our approach is to immerse ourselves in the rhythm of nature to embrace all its biodiversity and encourage the natural process in order to grow healthy grapes from which to make expressive and vibrant wines.

- Ruins of Roselle: 8 km north of Grosseto stands the ancient city of Roselle, it was one of the most important cities of Etruria.
