The history of Badia di Morrona

Badia di Morrona is an ancient Abbey built by Count Ugone in 1089.

Since 1939, this 600-hectare estate has belonged to the Gaslini Alberti family. 1500 total acres (600 hectares), 275 of which (110 hectares) planted to vines, 100 (40 acres) to olive groves, the rest woods and wheat fields.

The production

The company's wealth is based on the quality of the vineyards, the result of the new generation of plants, that is, those made with clones, plant density and breeding systems identified on the basis of the type of land and wines to be produced.

The quality of the grapes produced and the quantity of vineyards available allows for an excellent selection process.

Curiosities

  • The property was always confirmed to the Camaldolese monks by the Papacy and placed under the jurisdiction of the bishopric of Volterra, until 1284. From that year on, the Abbey was disputed between Pisans, Volterrans, Florentines and monks. Only with a military act of 1482, the vicar of the bishop of Volterra, Bartolomeo Soderini, took possession of it and made it his personal residence for the holidays.
