Curiosities

  • The property was always confirmed to the Camaldolese monks by the Papacy and placed under the jurisdiction of the bishopric of Volterra, until 1284. From that year on, the Abbey was disputed between Pisans, Volterrans, Florentines and monks. Only with a military act of 1482, the vicar of the bishop of Volterra, Bartolomeo Soderini, took possession of it and made it his personal residence for the holidays.

Nearby places to visit

  • Terricciola: Ancient village of Etruscan origin, as documented by the discovery of settlements in the hamlets of Morrona and Soiana, where there are necropolises of the Hellenistic age with underground chamber tombs. Of particular interest is the Belvedere Hypogeum.
  • Terme di Casciana: This is an ancient spa set in a beautifully secluded area of the Pisan countryside. Enjoy a few hours of relaxation and wellbeing in its thermal pools.
