Curiosities
- The Tenuta di Poggio al Casone is a protected area for hares. These very sensitive animals live undisturbed and perfectly integrated with the environment that surrounds them.
- The wine "La Cattura", takes its name from an ancient tradition: every year in February, "La Cattura" is organized, a census of the specimens that populate the estate thanks to the collaboration with local hunters. It is not in any way a bloody event, but it is useful for monitoring the development of this species.
Nearby places to visit
- Lari: medieval town a few kilometers from Poggio al Casone. Imposing and well visible is the Castle of the Vicars, military garrison of the Republic of Pisa until its fall under Florence. Today it houses an innovative interactive educational museum, in which technological applications are integrated with an illustrative system that leads to the discovery of the secrets of the fortress. Lari is famous for the cherries, to which for over 60 years is dedicated the festival (late May-early June) oldest in Tuscany.
- Crespina: was an ancient territory of conquest, passed under the control of Lucca, Pisa, and Florence, unfortunately, there is no trace of the Castle that dominated this medieval village. Well, recognizable and of particular beauty, are the eighteenth-century villas, among these deserve to be mentioned Villa Belvedere, in a panoramic position with oratory, English garden, and lemon house, and the Villa-museum Carlo Pepi, It houses a private collection of works of art mainly focused on the Macchiaioli: their followers and the students of Giovanni Fattori.
